About Strategy Snapshot

Strategy is something a team practices, not a document it owns.

Most companies confuse the two. They produce a plan, distribute it, and go back to running the business on assumptions nobody has examined in a while. Then the market moves and the plan doesn’t.

Strategy Snapshot is a weekly piece for CEOs of mid-market companies who want the discipline, not the binder. Each issue covers one tool or idea you can use: naming the real problem, building genuine options, testing what has to be true, spotting drift before it costs you.

No frameworks for their own sake. One useful thing a week.

Who writes it

Mark Haas advises CEOs and boards of mid-market companies on strategy and governance. Thirty-plus years across industries, including healthcare, defense, finance, social services, and biomedical research. He’s founded three companies, including Haas Strategy Solutions, so the advice comes from someone who has been on both sides of the table.

Certified Management Consultant, former Chair and CEO of the Institute of Management Consultants USA, and its Ethics Officer for two decades.

He works with no more than four leadership teams at a time. What’s here is what he uses in the field.

Rethink your strategy before the market does it for you.
